“House of Brands” – MSJ 9/13/2004
During the time we were at Michigan, our school went through 3 names:
  • University of Michigan Business School (UMBS)
  • Michigan Business School (MBS)
  • Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan (Ross)
And 2 logos:
  • a circular one
  • the block M (which was what we originally had several years ago) 
The latest incarnation was announced in Fall of 2004 when a man named Stephen Ross gave the school $100 million, and in return, the school renamed itself after him. FYI, at Michigan, the Black Business Students Association owns the student business card market, thus the remark about re-branding being good for business.
